Boeing Prepares MD-90 for Transonic Truss-Braced Wing Testbed
Aircraft to Undergo Extensive Modifications by Boeing
X-66A Demonstrator for NASA to Feature Shortened MD-90 Airframe
Boeing has ferried an MD-90 airplane to its facility in Palmdale, California, where it will undergo extensive modifications as part of the Transonic Truss-Braced Wing (TTBW) project.
The MD-90 will serve as the testbed for the X-66A demonstrator aircraft, which is being developed by Boeing for NASA.
The key modifications include replacing the MD-90's wings with a new pair designed to validate the TTBW concept, which promises improved aerodynamic efficiency and reduced drag.
The X-66A will utilize a shortened MD-90 airframe, allowing for the integration of the TTBW without compromising structural integrity.
