Pixar's "Borrowed Time" Wins Oscar for Best Animated Short Film
Animated Western Short Film Explores Themes of Grief and Loss
Director Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj Accept Award at 93rd Academy Awards
LOS ANGELES, March 26, 2021 - Pixar's "Borrowed Time," an animated Western short film directed by Andrew Coats and Lou Hamou-Lhadj, has won the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.
"Borrowed Time" tells the story of a sheriff and his young son who are traveling through the Old West when they come across a group of bandits. The sheriff is forced to confront his own mortality and the inevitability of death as he tries to protect his son.
The film was praised for its stunning animation, emotional storytelling, and exploration of universal themes. In their acceptance speech, Coats and Hamou-Lhadj thanked their team for their hard work and dedication.
"This film is about the love between a father and son," Coats said. "It's also about the inevitability of death and the importance of living each day to the fullest."
Hamou-Lhadj added, "We hope that this film will inspire people to cherish the time they have with their loved ones."
"Borrowed Time" is the first Pixar short film to win an Oscar since "Piper" in 2017. The win marks Pixar's 10th Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, the most of any studio.
