Ex-USWNT boss Sermanni returns to Matildas
Tom Sermanni has been appointed assistant coach of the Matildas, returning to the Australian national team setup after a 12-year absence.
The 67-year-old, who coached the USWNT from 2002-05 and Australia from 1994-97 and 2005-09, will work alongside head coach Tony Gustavsson.
Sermanni's appointment comes as the Matildas prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He has a wealth of experience in international football, having also coached New Zealand from 2012-14, and Japan from 2016-18.
Sermanni said he was excited to be back involved with the Matildas, and was looking forward to working with Gustavsson and the team.
"I'm very excited to be back involved with the Matildas," Sermanni said.
"I've had a long history with the team, and I'm looking forward to working with Tony and the players to help them achieve their goals."
Gustavsson said he was delighted to have Sermanni on board, and was confident he would be a valuable addition to the team.
"I'm delighted to have Tom join our staff," Gustavsson said.
"He has a wealth of experience in international football, and I'm confident he will be a valuable addition to our team.
"I'm looking forward to working with him to help the Matildas achieve their goals."
